Officers

Full Time Officers

Full Time Officers (FTOs) are the top leaders of your Students’ Union and work full-time to make your student life better. Elected by students every March, they work for a year to represent your views to the University, run campaigns to deliver real change and support the work of our incredible student volunteers. Meet the team for 2023/24 here!

Cerys Evans

Hi there! I'm Cerys, a Maths student in Pendle who's been a student leader with LUSU for the last few years and now I'm your President!

As President, I lead the overall work of the Students’ Union and the Full Time Officer team to ensure that they are winning for students at every opportunity. As President I'm the lead spokesperson for the SU on all political matters relating to student life at Lancaster. Over the next year I want to focus on getting you where you want to go easily and cheaply, reforming student services to actually serve students and making campus an affordable place to belong.

Sam Hedges

Hello, I am Sam and I am your VP Education for 23/24!

I have just completed my Bachelors in Physics at Lancaster having moved here from Blackburn. In my free time I love to get out into the beautiful Lancastrian countryside on my bike. I have also been a host on Bailrigg FM in the last year which gave me a chance to explore music and hosting a radio show!

Over the next year, I want to support students in education and be your voice on University Committees. I plan on working towards the goals of creating an academic community in departments, faculties, and the SU as a whole, with a key focus on our fantastic reps. I will also be focusing on how Lancaster will work in the long term with projects such as the Curriculum Transformation Project. I want to be a friendly face in the office that you can bring your concerns to, and I am excited to be working as part of such an amazing team!

Santi Siabato

Hiya! I’m Santi, a Marketing with Psychology student who’s originally from Colombia (but lives in Surrey), and I am thrilled to be your new Vice President Societies and Media for 2023/24.

I have consistently gotten involved in university life via joining and being a part of multiple society execs, being Lead Academic Rep for my cohort, and I had the most fantastic time being County College President 2022/23 whilst also being the biggest Ariana Grande Stan to walk the earth. I’ve taken an active role in societies such as LUYoga, LUSing and LUHipHop during my 3 years at Lancaster and can confidently say that I am well versed when it comes to helping society execs, whether it be through affiliation, reaffiliation, or training. I am very excited to help society and media groups in any way I can and can’t wait to tackle the challenges that will surely manifest whilst in the role.

I have plenty of exciting ideas and projects surrounding society and media groups at Lancaster for this coming year, including offering and delivering more engaging and interactive face-to-face training for society execs. Ensuring that the societies team and myself are there to offer support when we open affiliation this year. But above all making sure societies and media groups get the representation, appreciation, open communication, and support from the SU that they deserve!

Jack Watson

Hello! I’m Jack and I am your Vice President Sport.

I’m a recent Natural Sciences graduate having started at Lancaster back in 2019 and I’ve involved myself as much as possible in sport since I started. I had the honour of being elected the President of American Football over the last two years, as well as being a member of the previous two Roses Committee’s, bringing our varsity back with a bang on home soil in 2022 before taking it to York in 2023 and beating them for the first time in 38 years in their own home. Mark my words, Roses 2024 will not be one to be missed!

Now, as VP Sport, I’m very excited to be able to give back to the sporting and wider community at Lancaster that has built me to be the person I am today. This primarily resides in; furthering, implementing and facilitating the long overdue Sports Review, which will see a systematic change across the entire sporting structure at the university; improve the executive committee handover process as to aid the longevity of your clubs success from the top and; create a Sports Committee which will provide a platform for student athletes to make change, provide feedback and bridge the gap between students and their union, creating a channel of open communication.

I would finally like to thank previous officers for their amazing work in the role, and want to use this space to let you know that I endeavour to continue their work in making sport at Lancaster a safe, inclusive and positive environment for all.

Harrison Stewart

Hey! I’m Harrison, a third year LLB Law with Politics student. Originally from Morecambe before moving to the wonderful college of Cartmel, I am a proud legal nerd, a pretentious music fanatic (with a scary obsession over The Smiths) and a keen university sportsman.

I’m also your Vice President Union Development, which means I’m your political lead on the 9 colleges, governance, democracy, finance, the commercial services (Sugarhouse, Central and Living) and the climate crisis.

My main interests lie in governance processes, environmental sustainability and political engagement, but I also aim to work closely in encouraging collaboration between student groups, effectively marketing the Union and increasing the diversity of student leadership.

Stay tuned to my Instagram @lusuuniondevelopment to find out how I’m getting on!

Josh Newsham

Hello, I'm Josh,

I am a Business Economics graduate from Preston and I am so happy to be your VP Welfare! I have experience in societies, JCR, and forums and want to use this varied experience to deliver meaningful change at Lancaster.

This year my focus is ensuring our campus is welcoming and accessible to all, regardless of background, by breaking down systemic and cultural barriers through; accessible Cost of Living Support, reforming complaints procedures, empowering forums, introducing a Harm Reduction Policy around alcohol and drug use, and much much more. I also sit on University Council and seek to represent the student voice in high level decisions in every aspect of University life.

And last but not least! I want to ensure your SugarHouse becomes a SugarHome by working with Sugar to introduce a diversity of cultural and community nights.

Liberation & Campaign Officers

Lancaster is a diverse and multicultural community and we can help you to find your people in our Liberation & Campaign Forums. The forums are each led by your Liberation & Campaign Officers (LCOs) who work to build communities and campaign to improve the experience of these students. LCOs are elected in Lent term of each year and serve the same term as FTOs. LCOs also sit on the Union Assembly helping to make change in LUSU and steer the direction of your FTOs. If you identify within a forum, then you are automatically a member of that community! Find out more about your LCOs and discover their forums below!

Thomas Cross

Hi everyone, I'm Thomas your LGBTQ+ LCO!

I'm a 3rd year history and politics student. I'm currently a student trustee and former President of Politics society so I've got a lot of experience across student life and I look forward to putting that to use to help Lancaster's queer community.

Originally I'm from Somerset (but don't worry my parents aren't related) and I love watching Doctor Who and playing badminton.

I want to make sure the forum provides a safe and comfortable place for all queer students at Lancaster so whatever you're going through you have a place you can feel supported.

Over this year I will work with other forums to improve the experience of marginalised groups, encourage societies to sign an inclusion pledge to prevent LGBTQ+ people from being marginalised, stand up for trans rights so we can call this university our home and deliver 1 big event every term for forum members.

So make sure to follow my Instagram account to find out what's happening!

Molly O'Reilly-Kime

Hi! My name is Molly and I'm your Postgrad & Mature Students' Officer. I did my BSc in Computer Science as a mature student right here in Lancas, and I liked it so much I've stuck around to do my PhD!

My job this year is to reestablish the PGM Forum to create a great space for the community, and I'm looking forward to meeting and working with you. I want to make sure that PGM students feel heard and represented within the Students' Union; including year-round PG events, pushing for more family-friendly spaces, and so much more. Please reach out to to me if there's anything you would like LUSU to do for you!

When I'm not reading books tangentially related to my field, my hobbies include video games and tattoo collecting, and you can often find me at one of Lancaster's many pubs being pretentious about ale.

Annika Budhrani

Hello! My name is Annika, and I'm so excited to be your International Student Officer for 2023-2024 :)

I'm currently a second-year Accounting and Finance student, and part of Pendle College. Being originally from the Philippines, it's been so fun meeting new people and embracing UK culture (still convinced they’re fries not chips though). When I'm not studying, I'm typically out with my friends, cooking up a storm, playing my guitar, or reading a good book.

My time here at Lancaster has been life-changing, and the experience has truly been one of a kind. However, I understand that the adjustment process can be very challenging for many international students- as I have been in that position before. So my agenda this year is set on revitalizing the international forum, creating stronger partnerships with international societies, planning larger and more frequent international meet and greet events, and ensuring every international student gets the necessary support and resources to thrive here.

I'll be working closely with the rest of the incredible LUSU team to bring these promises to life, so please don't be afraid to approach me for any questions, concerns, or conversations! I'm always happy to help out :)

Aminah Mann

Hi, my name is Aminah and your new Race and Ethnic Minority Officer for this year! I am so excited to be one of the liberation officers to bring about positive change and help support students on their university journey.

I am very passionate about ensuring inclusivity and diversity and can’t wait to get started on reviving the forum so that it can help contribute to individual students' satisfaction and their wellbeing, as well as supporting societies campus-wide. :)

Hana Dodsworth

Hi, I’m Hana, a third year Law student and I'm so excited to be your Women+ Officer again for 2023-2024.

Honestly, I’m here for you guys, I love meeting new people and discussing issues important to others. I’d love this year to start more conversations and get stuff in the works about stuff that matters to you. I love a good night out, or a chill activity, and I’m always only a message away. If you have any issues or just need a chat, message me on Insta or on email. I’m here for the women+ students at the university.

It is a community not a job and I’m excited to meet you all :)

Luke Halpin & Rowan Birch

Hi, I'm Luke and I'm a computer science PhD student researching assistive technology for students with ADHD. I've been involved with the Students Union in many ways over the last four years, but am looking forward to the opportunities to support students as your co-SWD Officer. In my spare time I can be found at the sports centre with the university fencing club, or around my department finding various things to do such as working on projects to increase diversity and inclusivity.

Hiya, I'm Rowan! I'm a history student, interested in the historical experiences of marginalised groups with medicine and healthcare. After spending two years on the Students with Disabilities forum exec, I'm excited to continue growing our community, and campaign for a better experience for students with disabilities in Lancaster.

Through the forum and campaigns, we hope to improve the academic, and wider experiences, of university life for students with disabilities while also providing a welcoming and inclusive community for students to be part of.

Junior Common Room (JCR) Executives

In Michaelmas term every year, each college elects a JCR Executive which is a team of students who work to represent your interests when it comes to college life. They organise events, run campaigns, and represent your views to the management of the College and University. You can keep up to date with your JCR on their social media accounts which are linked below:
