This Nine Colleges competition aims to engage a wider audience of students in the conversation of ‘sustainability’ and in particular how Lancaster University can be more sustainable. Students will develop and present innovative ideas in reaction to challenges set by the University. The idea considered to be the best researched, most innovative and most actionable by our esteemed judges will win a £750 prize, with a runners up prize of £250. The final presentations and judging will take place during Green Lancaster Week in week 9. This competition has been funded by the Friends Alumni Fund.

For students considering taking part this competition it is:

  • A chance to help Lancaster University become more environmentally sustainable
  • A chance to work across disciplines with others in their college, and to win on behalf of their college
  • An opportunity to win £750
  • An experience that will give them new skills and impress future employers

In teams, students will develop innovative ideas and solutions to sustainability challenges on campus over the course of this term with the support of a coach and they will be introduced to experts relevant to their idea from across campus. The competition will climax in week 9 when ideas will be pitched to a panel of experts who will select the winner.

If you would like to be a member of your college’s team or would like more information about the commitment required from this competition, please contact Joe Bourne in LUSU. We encourage participants from all faculties and of any level of experience!
