Your new JCR Executives came together before Lent term begins to attend our annual Officer Conference where we train the new officers both in their individual job roles and in what it means to be an officer in general. At the conference on Friday January 11 they discussed a number of the key issues facing the wider student community before separating as colleges to discuss their own individual plans for the year ahead.

Matty Robinson, Vice President (Union-Development) said of the event:
“Today’s officer conference has been really successful. I particularly enjoyed the fishbowl activity where we had the chance to hear the opinions of the new officers on a range of topics. Discussions like these are important in helping our officers reflect on their own experiences as well as considering the experiences of others and this will help them in becoming better officers. I’m really looking forward to the year ahead.”

Prior to the conference, on the Thursday evening the officers attended a mixer event where they competed as colleges against one another in a number of quizzes and challenges aimed at helping our JCRs to network with each other and to give them an idea of the wide range of different types of social that they could put on themselves

As the students’ union we will continue to support the officers throughout the year with regular meetings and additional training sessions to help them build the skills and experience needed for their roles. We’re thrilled to see such enthusiastic and passionate students using their student voice to benefit the university experiences of others and we look forward to hearing about all the wonderful things these officers achieve in the year ahead.
