Appointment of two new Student Trustees has been ratified at an extraordinary meeting of the students’ union Executive Committee this afternoon.

Sam Maesschalck and Eloise Frost are now able to join the students’ union Board of Trustees following the completion of the ratification process.

Yesterday the students’ union announced that it had submitted a serious incident report to the Charity Commission as a result of a delay in filling the vacant positions.

The delay had placed the union in a position where there was a majority of paid trustees (six – the Full-Time Officers) to unpaid trustees (four) on the Board for a sustained period of time. This was a violation of our governing documents and of Charity Commission rules.

Confirmation of the Student Trustee appointments restores the required balance to the union’s Board of Trustees. Recruitment processes are ongoing to fill the two vacant External Trustee positions.
