The Temporary Suspension of some Face-to-Face Activities

Lancashire is currently on Local COVID Alert Level: Very High, we wanted to make clear the Students’ Union’s position on what activity can and cannot continue.

This decision impacts all Students’ Union face to face activities including, but not limited to, the following groups:
•    Societies
•    Sports Teams
•    College Sports Teams
•    JCR Events
•    Student Media channels

The following activities have been approved to restart under the appropriate COVID-secure, Tier Three guidelines. These guidelines have been developed with the group executives and are in line with current government, local authority and NGB guidance.

Further clarity is being sought to reestablish our other activities as quickly as possible, on the basis that they can be delivered in a COVID-secure manner. We apologise to groups that we have yet been unable to approve but it is rapidly changing and unclear situation. We are committed to working through these challenges in the weeks and months ahead.

Help & Advice

In light of the ongoing COVID19 outbreak, the Welcome Desk help and SU Advice services are now facilitated by email. The Advice service will continue to operate during normal working hours (9AM-5PM Monday - Friday). If you need any support please don't hesitate to get in touch, the team are here for you as always.


We are receiving a high volume of help desk enquiries. Due to COVID-19, a number of staff are furloughed and Welcome Desk help responses may be delayed. If your enquiry is urgent please contact the Advice team as above, otherwise, appropriate staff members will respond to your help enquiry upon their return. We thank you for your patience during this challenging time.

Central Supermarket

Central is now operating with guidelines to reduce the risk of spreading Coronavirus, protecting both staff and customers. 

  • We will be reducing the number of customers allowed in-store to 5 at any 1 time

  • You will be required to wait at the till point until called forward to be served, respectfully allowing at least a 2-metre safe distance between yourself, members of staff and other customers
  • The store will only be accepting card payments until further notice
  • Please be mindful of others when shopping and only purchase as much as you need

Open 8:30AM - 10PM Monday - Friday (Opening 9AM Saturday and 10AM Sunday)



Central is also working with the university to put together essential Food Boxes for any students living on campus or in Lancaster town centre. If you're self-isolating or anxious about heading out, there is no need to leave your accommodation to buy food. Get Food Boxes delivered direct to your door.

If you're struggling financially and you are worried about your ability to provide yourself with sufficient food, we're here for you. We have a limited number of emergency provisions (due to national supply chains) for any students in desperate need of food aid. Our Food Boxes will contain essential store cupboard staples (all vegetarian) to help you get through this time.

Our stock is incredibly limited, so please understand that this service is limited and is only for those in need. To order your Food Box please contact the SU Advice team directly on and they will arrange to get it to you. Please also advise at this point if you are self-isolating.



In response to the COVID-19 pandemic in partnership with Lancaster University, we are setting up a volunteering network to provide practical support to on-campus communities.

SU Living

Our Living housing provider has put together advice and information for it's tenants during this time, which can be found at Living will continue to offer full repairs, maintenance and cleaning services, but please note, the Living office is now operating remotely in line with government guidelines. All non-essential in-person activity for student groups will no longer go ahead at the current time. This includes fixtures, socials, events, meetings, forums for student groups including; JCR's, PTO's, societies, sports teams, college teams, student media teams and volunteering.

Our student union staff team and the sports centre are working as hard and as quickly as possible to plan, adapt and work round the recent government guidelines on sport.

We’re working through how this will impact activity on campus both indoor and outdoors and how we can safely accommodate and support our clubs and students.
