NUS Conference Rep:

National Union Of Students Conference Representatives are students elected to represent you at NUS National Conference which is held over Easter break. They will vote on national policy in the way that best reflects the students at Lancaster.


An event held during the campaigning period where candidates give a speech noting policies and what they want to achieve if elected.

JCR (Junior Common Room) Executive Officer

JCRs are elected by people in each college in Michaelmas term and represent you in a variety of roles.

Positions include: (varies per college) President, Vice President, Treasurer, Welfare, Academic, International, Sports, Communications, Socials

PTO (Part-time Officer)

Part-Time Officers are elected by a campus ballot in Michaelmas term, and represent students from all areas of the university.


The process of putting your name on the nominations board, the week before campaigning begins.

R.O.N. (Re-open Nominations):

R.O.N. is an additional option if you don’t feel any of the candidates are suitable for the position. R.O.N. appears in every election.

University Councillor:

Elected to sit on university council alongside the union President as a representative for students.

Single transferable vote (STV) is a voting system designed to achieve proportional representation through ranked voting.
