In light of the issues surrounding the Sugarhouse's name and its history, I feel it is important for every student to be educated about the slave trade history of the sugarhouse building and black history. Regardless of whether the name of the sugarhouse is changed, the history of the area could be completely forgotten by students...and this is wrong. I propose that a collection of fine art students (from different backgrounds) from Lancaster university design a mural which celebrates black excellence such as the image below. I think this would be a great way for the university to support the BAME community and actively partake in being allies to black students.
