North West Cancer Research (NWCR) are the leading independant cancer research charity for the North West of England and North Wales, figting the toughest forms of cancer in the region. We are striving to improve awareness, diagnosis and treatemetn of cancer, prioritising the forms which hit our region the hardest.
We are determined to find cures and stop cancer sooner.
Across the UK, 1 in 2 people will receive a cancer diagnosis at some point in their lives. Living in the North West, we are 25% more likely to be diagnosed with cancer than elsewhere in the UK.
• 45,000 people are diagnosed with a cancer each year in the North West. That’s 123 people every day.
• 19,000 people annually die from cancer in the North West. That’s 52 deaths each day.
NWCR has been at the forefront of world class life saving cancer research for 70 years, supporting the best cancer research and researchers across the North West. As an independent charity based in, and focussed on, the North West - we are dedicated to tackling the forms of cancer which have the greatest impact on our region.
Currently we fund more than fifity projects across the region. The NWCR funded researchers we support are based at institiutions across the North West, including our centres of excellence in Liverpool, Bangor and Lancaster universities, with the charity working closely with Lancaster University for over 10years supporting numerous projects, researchers and students in their work.
North West Cancer Research are looking for volunteers to support their community fundraiser at upcoming events and festivals in the Lancashire area.
- Carnforth Carnival - 06/07/2019
- Fleetwood Festival of Transport - 27/07/2019
Volunteers will help with the set up of the charities stall and then during the course of the day will work the community fundraiser to promote the charity, their Sun Safety campaign which will include giving out information and holding collection buckets. There will also be the opportunity to help run the children’s activities on the stall which will include UV keyring and bracelet making to encourage sun awareness and the wearing of sun cream.
Travel arrangements can be made for those who don’t have their own transport and lunch costs are covered by the charity; you will also be provided with charity t-shirts and information. This is a great opportunity for the right volunteers to spend a fun day whilst giving time back to a local cause.
NWCR is looking for someone who is confident enough to approach and talk to members of the public in a friendly, open manor as well as communicating with children. We are happy to work with people who haven’t volunteered before and are looking to build their experience in this field; if there is a particular skill that a volunteer is looking to develop then we can support this and give opportunities where possible.
The right volunteer will be non-judgemental, non-discriminatory and will have a friendly, approachable demeanour.
