Ben Francis

Representing students, encouraging participation at all levels and also organises the annual Roses event.

I’m Ben, the VP Activities for 2017/18. I have recently graduated from my four year MSci Geography degree. Over the last four years I have always had an active involvement in several sports and societies. I have mostly been involved with Athletics, Running and Triathlon where I have competed at BUCS and Roses and spent two years on the exec for the Athletics club. At college level, I was Vice President of the Bowland JCR exec and have always taken part in various events such as Founders, Carter Shield and the Nine College Challenge.

My key priorities this year are:

  1. Participation – I would like to see an increase in participation among sports clubs as well as increased involvement in societies.
  2. Inter-college competition – The college system is one of Lancaster’s greatest strengths and therefore we should embrace this. To do this I would like to increase the quality and number of engagements in inter-college competitions, including sporting and non-sporting competition.
  3. Communications and transparency – I would like to develop a good relationship with all clubs and societies, regularly meeting and talking with members to listen to their issues, making sure they are heard within LUSU.
  4. Roses – I will ensure a well prepared and delivered Roses weekend which is enjoyable and memorable for everyone – topped off with a big victory over our rivals York!

I am really looking forward to representing Lancaster students as VP activities this year, and would love to work with as many teams and societies as I can to help achieve their aims for the coming year. Feel free to get in touch with me at
