Hi everyone!
This is our first major trip of the year to the annual Tyne Tour event is held in Hexham and is open to all members of the club (at least one pool session attendance required!). The weekend is a great introduction to those new to moving water, as well as, those wanting a great couple of evenings camping on the Friday and Saturday night. On Saturday evening there will be a professionally organised Ceilidh (folk music and dancing... can't go wrong).
The plan for the weekend:
We will drive up to Hexham on the Friday evening and set up camp before going to Spoons for a drink (and dinner if you want).
On Saturday, we will paddle the River Tyne which will take up the majority of the day. In the evening, there's fireworks in town and we have the Ceilidh. Don't worry there's a Tesco's just down the road if you want to get nay snacks or drinks! Previous years we've managed to use the local sports centre for showers if you wanted one too.
On the Sunday, we will pack up camp and most likely head to the River Tees (high force to low force) then return to Lancaster in the afternoon... there'll almost certainly be another spoons trip when we get back too if you want to come along.
This is a national event which many other unis and clubs come along to, great way to mix with the wider paddling community!
Numbers must be sent to the event organizers very soon, so if you are wanting to come please sign up ASAP.
There are 2 ticket types avaliable:
There will also be the cost of your share of fuel on top of this (probably around £15 ish). We add fuel to the debt sheet which we'll chase up over the course of the term, any questions about paying it back contact the exec.
Please bring:
1. Swimwear - enough for 2 days
2. A thermal layer to wear under your wetsuit (any kind of synthetic top is fine, just not cotton)
3. A pair of shoes that you can get wet (please no crocks or flipflops, an old pair of trainers is fine)
4. Spare clothes & towel - bring some warm clothes, as much as the weather should be nice you never know!
5. food/drink - snacks can go in someone's drybag or BA. Individually packed snacks like penguins are great
6. Tent... if you've got one it'd be fab if you could bring it along.
Again, if you need to borrow some of the above kit, just message someone/the club.
We'll be meeting, most likely, at different times to get kit sorted for everyone. You will be assigned a driver in the week beforehand based on when you're free to leave, this will be at some point Friday afternoon/evening (if you're unlucky and have a full day on Friday).
Please give at least 72 hours notice if you can't attend a trip, otherwise you will still be required to pay for fuel in the car you are assigned as this is usually high demand and we might be able to swap your ticket to someone else to save you paying anything extra.
Please also remember you will be away for most of the weekend, although it'll be fairly easy to buy food there please come with plenty of snacks and some breakfast (saying that if you're nice to your driver there is a maccies nearby).
The BIGGEST thing I can say to you though is IT WILL BE NOVEMBER AND IT WILL BE COLD! Please bring plenty of layers!
Any questions, feel free to message the club!
