Duddon Weekend Trip 15th-17th Nov

Tickets go live at 8:00 AM on Monday 4th of November.

Its time for everyone favourite hut, High Moss! prepare for amazing scenes, cozy bunkbeds and crags in walking distance.

So we're running a weekend trip from the 15th to the 17th of November, to the Duddon valley in the Lake district. We're staying at the Rucksack Club's hut, High Moss, which is near Seathwaite and is a short drive (and a short ~10 min walk) away from loads of crags such as Wallowbarrow or Brandy Crag. If the weather permits, big mountain crags - such as EskScafell or Dow - are also a similarly short drive (and then a long walk) away, so there will be plenty of amazing climbing options. There will be cars leaving at a variety of times on the friday; please let us know the earliest time you can leave on Friday on the info form.

Tickets will be around £35, which covers the cost of fuel, the accomodation and food for the weekend. If you're interested in attending but may struggle to afford it, please contact our treasurer Charlie Douch or complete the Access fund application ASAP.

As per as all LUMC trips, Food will be provided over the weekend, with veggie evening meals on the Friday and Saturday nights, alongside basic breakfast and lunch materials to make sandwiches etc. As such, it may be worth bringing some of your favourite snacks of choice to eat when out on the hill (but you'd equally be fine without). If you have any dietary requirements please put it on your info form.

We aim to be an accesible, inclusive and welcoming society, so if there's anything we can do to help supporrt you over the weekend please let us know! We'll host a pre-trip info meeting (time and location tbd), which will be a good oppurtunity to finalise Friday cars, meet people coming on the trip, ask any questions you might have, and start making some climbing plans. It also helps us reduce chaos on the trip, so please come along!

The hut sleeps 24 across several dorms; so at least one of them will be an allocated quiet space for those of you intent on sleeping / wanting an escape from it all. If you want a space in one of these, say so on the trip form.

You'll need to bring or borrow:

  • Waterproof Coat and Trousers (expect it to be wet!)
  • Hiking Boots or Approach shoes
  • Plenty of warm outdoorsy layers (not jeans); spare layers a good idea.
  • Hat & Gloves
  • Headtorch (+ batteries!) - Very Important for these Winter Trips
  • Water Bottle (1L+) & a Flask if you have one
  • Toiletries, towel etc.
  • Sleeping bag.
  • Any climbing gear you own (ie. Shoes, Harness, Helmet etc.); see the info form.
  • Rucksack to carry your kit to the crag.

If you don't have access to any of these items, speak to us at the pre-trip meeting or message one of the exec and we'll sort you out. At this time of year, heading into the hills ill-equipped is a spectacularly bad idea and can end badly, so if you come onto the trip without having organised to borrow something you need, we may have to leave you in the hut for the day. Normal climbing kit can be borrowed via the.

If you have any accessibility needs, we would really like to hear about them and do whatever we can for you please contact our EDI officer Ben Watson or any other member of the exec you feel comfortable speaking to. We aim for our trips to be as accessible as we can make them.
