Thirlmere Trip - Night Navigation Course
This is an additional opportunity for those on the Thirlmere trip.
We are running a night navigation course with 2 professional instructors! This is an excellent opportunity to learn how to navigate in the mountains in the dark, using a map and compass - a skill that will make you safer and that opens up possibilities for exploring! The course will be held a 5-minute drive from the Thirlmere hut and will be the evening activity for Saturday from 6-9pm. This course is aimed at those who have done some navigation skills before although members of the exec have offered to help brush up compass skills the day before so do ask if you would like a quick refresh!
After you have bought this ticket you MUST fill out this booking form, as it is required by the company running the course.
This course will run even in the pouring rain so please make sure you have enough clothes to keep you warm and dry.
BRING:
- Enough clothes to keep you warm and dry. Check the weather forecast! Jeans are not suitable.
- Waterproof clothing (Jacket and trousers)
- Rucksack with a waterproof liner (a plastic bag is fine)
- Walking boots
- Snacks and drink
- Pen and paper
- Digital watch with a stopwatch, or a stopwatch (mobile phones are not suitable)
- Glasses and/or magnifying glass if you will need them to read very fine detail on the map
Please bring the following kit if you have it, if you don't you can borrow it:
- Head torch
- Compass
- Ordnance Survey map 1:25,000 Explorer OL7 The English Lakes North Eastern area & Map case
If you don’t have all of the kit you need please contact the exec ASAP and you might be able to borrow stuff.
