Womens+ Weekend Trip | 21st - 23rd February
**This trip is only open to those who identify as women, non-binary folk, and people of other marginalised genders.** We're running this trip as these genders are often marginalised in outdoor environments due to historical exclusion, lack of representation, and persistent social barriers that can make accessing and feeling safe in these spaces more challenging.
Join us as we head to North Wales for a weekend of adventuring! We're staying in Beudy Mawr, a cosy hut in the base of the Llanberis Pass. We'll leave Lancaster on the Friday afternoon/evening (with cars leaving at a variety of times to suit people's timetables), for two days of climbing, before returning to Lancaster on Sunday evening. More information will be emailed to you closer to the date. Tickets go live here Tuesday 11th February, 8am.
We'll hopefully (weather dependent!) do some trad or sport climbing likely on a mix of some mountain rhyolite and quarried slate. There's a high likelihood we'll end up hill walking, running, or exploring the local area if there's wet weather too, so be prepared for anything!
The default pickup location will be University House but your driver should confirm this before the Friday.
You'll need to bring or borrow:
This is a winter trip so you will need lots and lots of warm layers. If you don't have access to any of these items, drop us a message or say so on the google form and we'll sort you out. Heading out onto exposed crags ill-equipped is a spectacularly bad idea and can end badly, so if you come on the trip without having organised to borrow something you need, we may have to leave you in the hut for the day.
Food is provided for the weekend, with a variety of breakfast and lunch materials, and veggie/vegan chilli and curry for the Friday and Saturday evening meals. That said, you may wish to bring a selection of your favourite snacks, along with a sandwich box to put it all in. If you've any allergies or other dietary requirements please indicate as such when you buy a ticket.
On that note, we aim to be an accessible and inclusive society, so please, please, please tell us about your needs, so we can help support you and enable you to make the most of the trip. Most of the crags we plan on visiting will take around 20+ minutes of walking to reach, generally slightly uphill and on good paths. There are no toilet facilities at any of the crags, but some have toilets back at the car park.
The sleeping arrangement for the weekend consists of 17 bunk beds across two rooms, with 6 in one and 11 in the other. We'll designate the smaller of thse a quiet space, so if you think you'd appreciate some more peace and quiet, let us know on the questionnaire to reserve a place.
The hut might get a bit cold so please still bring warm sleeping bags and clothes to sleep in.
So people aren't forced to rush their questionairre when trying to buy a ticket (as has happened in the past), the questionaire this time round is a Google Form https://forms.gle/7wx5CjTrmh2RUy356
We'll chase you up to fill this form in once you've bought a ticket.
“The BMC recognises that climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.”
By purchasing a ticket you agree to the above statement.
