Join us on the 15th-17th march on our weekend trip to the Oread MC's Heathy Lea, which is just below Birchen Edge, in the Peak District, to sample some of the best rock climbing in the UK. We'll leave Lancaster on the Friday evening (with cars leaving at a variety of times to suit people's timetables), for two days climbing on the grit before a return to Lancaster on the Sunday evening. Further information will be emailed to you closer to the date (remember to check your spam folder!). Tickets go live here at 8AM, Sunday the 3rd March.
The default pickup location will be University House but your driver should confirm this before the friday.
There will be a quick pre-trip meeting at 6pm on Wednesday, the 13th March, in Bowland North SR2. Its a great oppurtunity to ask any questions you might have, meet some new people, and means we can iron out how the weekend will run!
You'll need to bring or borrow:
If you don't have access to any of these items, drop us a message or say so on the google form and we'll sort you out. Heading out onto exposed crags ill-equipped is a spectacularly bad idea and can end badly, so if you come on the trip without having organised to borrow something you need, we may have to leave you in the hut for the day.
Food is provided for the weekend, with a variety of breakfast and lunch materials, and veggie/vegan chilli and curry for the Friday and Saturday evening meals. That said, you may wish to bring a selection of your favourite snacks, along with a sandwich box to put it all in. If you've any allergies or other dietary requirements please indicate as such when you buy a ticket.
On that note, we aim to be an accessible and inclusive society, so please, please, please tell us about your needs, so we can help support you and enable you to make the most of the trip. Most of the crags we plan on visiting will take around 10-20 minutes of walking to reach, generally slightly uphill and on good paths. There are no toilet facilities at any of the crags; please see our instagram post for useful information about managing your period in the outdoors. We will tailor where teams climb according to individual needs within the group, so just let us know!
The sleeping arrangement for the weekend consists of 12 bunk beds across 2 rooms in the main hut, alongside a separate barn space with an alpine bunk with space for 8 and lots of space to kip on the floor. We'll designate one of rooms in the hut a quiet space, so if you think you'd appreciate some more peace and quiet, let us know on the questionnaire to reserve a place. The barn might get cold so please still bring warm sleeping bags. If you don't have a sleeping mat then please let us know on the form as we will try to put you in a bunk or lend you a mat. The questionaire this time round is a Google Form: Google form We'll chase you up to fill this form in once you've bought a ticket.
