This is our 2nd weekend trip away, this time to the Oread MC hut Heathy Lea, near Chatsworth in the Peak District – home to some of the best bouldering and trad climbing in the UK. We'll leave Lancaster on the Friday evening (with cars leaving at a variety of times to suit people's timetables), for two days climbing on gritstone before a return to Lancaster on Sunday evening. Further information will be emailed to you closer to the date. Tickets go live here at 6pm on Wednesday the 2nd Nov.
To help the weekend run smoothly, we ask that you come along to an informal pre-trip meeting on Tuesday the 8th, at 6.30 PM (venue TBA). This will enable you to meet who you'll be climbing with, get psyched, and enable us to make some rough plans for the weekend. It shouldn’t take too long and will hopefully be really useful.
You'll need to bring or borrow:
If you don't have access to any of these items, speak to us at the pre-trip meeting and we'll sort you out. At this time of year, heading into the hills ill-equipped is a spectacularly bad idea and can end badly, so if you come onto the trip without having organised to borrow something you need, we may have to leave you in the hut for the day.
Food is provided for the weekend, with a variety of breakfast and lunch materials, and veggie/vegan chilli and curry for the Friday and Saturday evening meals. That said, you may wish to bring a selection of your favourite snacks, along with a sandwich box to put it all in. If you've any allergies or other dietary requirements please indicate as such when you buy a ticket.
On that note, we aim to be an accessible and inclusive society, so please, please, please tell us about your needs, so we can help support you and enable you to make the most of the trip. Most of the crags we plan on visiting will take around 10-15 minutes of walking to reach, generally slightly uphill and on good paths. There are no toilet facilities at any of the crags, but some have toilets back at the car park.
The sleeping arrangement for the weekend consists of 12 bunk beds across two rooms in the main hut; one or both of these will be allocated as quiet spaces, so if you want some more peace and quiet, let us know on the questionnaire. The rest of us will either be sleeping on the floor or on alpine-style bunks in the hut’s barn space. The barn got quite cold last year (in fairness, it did snow, a lot), so remember to bring a thick sleeping bag or lots of warm layers to sleep in.
So people aren't forced to rush their questionairre when trying to buy a ticket (as has happened in the past), the questionaire this time round is a Google Form: https://forms.gle/YSEm6w7tBo5jBapH6
We'll chase you up to fill this form in once you've bought a ticket.
