Peak Weekend Away (24th-26th November)

This will be the last weekend trip of the year! We're headed to the Orpheous Caving Club Hut, which is slap-bang in the middle of the Peak District - home to some of the best trad climbing in the UK. We'll leave Lancaster on the Friday evening (with cars leaving at a variety of times to suit people's timetables), for two days climbing on the grit (and maybe a wee bit of limestone) before a return to Lancaster on the Sunday evening. Further information will be emailed to you closer to the date. Tickets go live here at Wednesday the 15th Nov 8AM

The default pickup location will be University House but your driver should confirm this before the friday.

There will be a pre trip meeting at 7pm on Wednesday, the 22nd Nov, in Bowland North, SR6. Please come along so you can say hello and we can iron out how the weekend will run!

You'll need to bring or borrow:

  • Waterproof Coat and Trousers (expect it to be wet!)
  • Hiking Boots or Approach shoes
  • Plenty of warm outdoorsy layers (not jeans); spare layers a good idea.
  • Hat & Gloves
  • Headtorch (+ batteries!)
  • Water Bottle (1L+) & a Flask if you have one
  • Toiletries, towel etc.
  • Sleeping bag & mat.
  • Any climbing gear you own (ie. Shoes, Harness, Helmet etc.); see the ticket form.
  • Rucksack to carry your kit to the crag.

This is a winter trip so you will need lots and lots of warm layers. If you don't have access to any of these items, drop us a message or say so on the google form and we'll sort you out. Heading out onto exposed crags ill-equipped is a spectacularly bad idea and can end badly, so if you come on the trip without having organised to borrow something you need, we may have to leave you in the hut for the day.

Food is provided for the weekend, with a variety of breakfast and lunch materials, and veggie/vegan chilli and curry for the Friday and Saturday evening meals. That said, you may wish to bring a selection of your favourite snacks, along with a sandwich box to put it all in. If you've any allergies or other dietary requirements please indicate as such when you buy a ticket.

On that note, we aim to be an accessible and inclusive society, so please, please, please tell us about your needs, so we can help support you and enable you to make the most of the trip. Most of the crags we plan on visiting will take around 10-20 minutes of walking to reach, generally slightly uphill and on good paths. There are no toilet facilities at any of the crags, but some have toilets back at the car park.

The sleeping arrangement for the weekend consists of 18 bunk beds across three rooms, alongside a separate attic space with a few more spots. We'll designate one of these a quiet space, so if you think you'd appreciate some more peace and quiet, let us know on the questionnaire to reserve a place.

The hut might get a bit cold so please still bring warm sleeping bags and clothes to sleep in.

So people aren't forced to rush their questionairre when trying to buy a ticket (as has happened in the past), the questionaire this time round is a Google Form: https://forms.gle/LATx5dtamFCf5dE86
We'll chase you up to fill this form in once you've bought a ticket.
