Sport Climbing Daytrip 17th Feb

So we're running a daytrip on the 17th Feb where we'll be going sport climbing - where we clip into in-situ bolts in the rock rather than placing our own gear - to one of the bolted crags near Lancaster, most likely Runestone quarry, in the Lake district.
This is open to all abilities and experiences; whether you're a hardened crimp god or have never fondled rock before.

Please meet outside University House for 8.15, where we'll sort out equipment and teams for the day before heading to the cliff.

We'll still go ahead with the trip on a mediocre forecast (think cold or a bit damp!), but if its totally rubbish we'll head to PrestonWall instead. Should plans change, we'll let you all know via email a day or two before. If we cancel to climb indoors, and this doesn't work for you, please get in touch and we'll organise a refund. Given the fact that we'll inevitably get quite February-y weather, you'll need to bring:

  • Waterproof coat and trousers (very important)
  • Lots of warm layers
  • Hat & Gloves
  • Sturdy shoes / boots for the walk in
  • Headtorch
  • Food & water; pack a flask for a hot drink if you have one.
  • Rucksack to pack it all in
  • and any climbing gear you already own; helmet / shoes / draws etc.

If you're missing any of this or if you think what you have isn't up to standard, please say so on the ticket questionairre and we'll try and sort you some spare kit.

Runestone Quarry is a great venue overlooking Little Langdale, with routes across all grades that reach about 20 metres in height. Its about an hour's drive, and then has a 1.9km walk-in that's gently uphill (about 100m of ascent) on a good track; it'll probably take us about 40 mins. We'll take care to take the walk-in at a pace that suits all in the group. There's no toilet facilities at the crag or carpark, so if you think you'll need loo roll or sanitary products, please bring them with you along with a plastic bag so you can take with you to bin them. Weather dependent, we may also end up at other sport venues in the Lakes or Dales, such as Giggleswick, Bram Crag Quarry or Robin Proctor's Scar.

As allways we have a range of ticket types for different abilities, on this trip we have Climbers Tickets - Open to All, Competent Second Tickets - For those who can lead belay and Indie Pair tickets - For those who can lead belay, lead a sport route and rethread anchors. If you are unsure you have the ability to purchase a certain ticket, please either just grab one that requires a bit less experience or talk to an exec. Because of the nature of sport trips its likely any competent seconds who are willing and able to lead will have this opportunity in the day so don't worry if you couldn't get an indie pair ticket!

If there's anything we can do to help facilitate your day out, please do get in touch. We endevear to support everybody's needs.

Tickets go live on the 8th Feb, 8AM
