Trad development workshop - 7pm, Margaret Fell Lecture Theatre. 

This wednesday evening, we will be running a traditional ('trad') climbing skills workshop! This discipline of climbing involves placing your own gear in order to protect yourself as you climb. Most outdoor climbing in the UK is trad, so learning its ins and outs opens up a vast array of opportunities.

There is a wide range of skills and techniques required to do this safely and we have many experienced leaders in the club keen to pass on their knowledge. To ensure that what we're teaching is at an appropriate skill level, we ask that you can already lead belay indoors. If there are spaces left we may open this up to more members of the club, and if you're super psyched but can't quite lead belay yet its worth dropping one of the exec a message.

The evening will consist of small focused groups of different experience levels, learning and practicing the skills needed to stay safe while out at crags and progress in outside climbing. This means anyone wanting to attend has to get a free ticket and let us know your current experience level and what you want to learn. This means we can make sure everyone is in the right group.

There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and just generally chat about climbing; this will be a relaxed and informative few hours. Please bring any kit you may already have along.

One final note, this session is not a substitute for experience; you can't just go out and jump on a trad lead after going to this session, our main aim is to help people understand better the equipment and skills we use on a day out, so progression out at the crags can avoid some of the faff that's better done in a nice warm room. (Learning how to tie a clove hitch when its pouring down with rain in the dark isn't fun). We'll be integrating first-lead groups into our upcoming trips to help you make those first steps in a safe manner.
