Union Vice-President (Education) Ian Meeks met with his national counterpart to discuss issues impacting higher education students.

Tuition fees, Brexit, lecture recording and much more were on the agenda for Ian’s meeting with NUS Vice-President for Higher Education Amatey Doku, a sociology graduate and former President of University of Cambridge Students’ Union.

In a wide-ranging discussion, the pair covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • Fears over plans to extend the teaching day at Lancaster
  • Tackling the Black Attainment Gap
  • Impact of industrial action by teaching staff on students
  • Brexit, its effect on home and international students and NUS backing for a people’s vote
  • Use of lecture recording technology
  • Our Alternative Education Review, written to offer students’ view of teaching and learning at Lancaster

Ian said: “We had a really productive discussion and it’s great to know that the NUS understands and is prepared to help with issues effecting students at Lancaster and around the country.

“Amatey loved our Alternative Education Review and has taken a copy away with him to find out more about the work we’re doing to address our members academic interests.”
