Extra Advice team staff and progress towards our strategic objectives were among the highlights of the union’s Trustee Board meeting yesterday.

The union is an educational charity and the trustees are the people who form its governing body or ‘board’. Our Board of Trustees is made up of a mix of students, elected officers and external members who can offer a different perspective and expertise.

The board meets four times a year to review the activities of the union and take a lead role in shaping future decisions.

Highlights of yesterday’s meeting included:

  • Approval of a proposal to appoint a new member of staff to strengthen the union Advice team
  • Approval of a new Health, Safety and Wellbeing Policy covering every aspect of union activity
  • Update on the union’s financial position
  • Update on progress towards the union’s strategic goals

Following the meeting, trustees spent a day-and-half in a training and team building session designed to help them bond as a team and become more effective in the way they oversee the work of the union.

President Rhiannon Llystyn Jones, who chairs the Trustee Board, said: “Our trustees are volunteers and we’re always so grateful to them for the contribution they make to the union.

“The expertise they are able to bring to guiding our policies and procedures is invaluable in ensuring the services the union offers to its members is safe and high quality.“It’s been great to spend some extra time with the board this week to ensure we’re able to work together even more effectively.”
