Students' union Vice-President (Welfare & Community) Emily Delaney has been working with the university to help you if you have problems with on-campus launderettes operated by Circuit.

Emily writes...

"As you may already know, I am currently working with the university Facilities and Commercial Services team to ensure that we get the best value for money possible from Circuit. Before running my election campaign, the university was unaware of issues with Circuit as people usually complain straight to Circuit’s helplines.

"I’m writing about this as we have had many reports of card dispensers swallowing money without giving cards and faulty machines taking credit from cards without actually providing the service. This message is to let you know how to deal with and report these issues."

What to do if you have a problem

1. Contact Circuit – you can call them on their helpline (01422 820026) which is on noticeboards in launderettes. You can also report this through the Machine Faults and Breakdowns page on the Circuit website. Tell them which launderette you’re in, the machine number (or if it’s the card machine, just tell them that) and what the problem is. There should be an error message on the display, make sure to tell them if this comes up. A common error is ‘door’ – this means the machine door isn’t closed properly so give it a push, and if this doesn’t fix it get it reported!

2. Let facilities know! This ensures that the university is aware of common issues and concerns with the service from Circuit and thus can take them into consideration when re-tendering a launderette contract in the future. This also means that if a machine isn’t fixed in an acceptable timeframe, it can be chased up by facilities.
