The students’ union Trustee Board is pleased to announce that Eloise and Sam’s term in office has been temporarily extended
To prevent the vacancies for Student Trustee positions arising before elections can be held under the new Articles of Association. If the terms of office end without extension, then the Trustee Board would be left with insufficient membership involvement and would be in breach of its Articles of Association (both the current and new versions) by having a majority of remunerated trustees. Under our current articles, we would be required to appoint replacements.
Executive Committee on the Fourth of February have ratified to extend the current term of office for Eloise Frost and Sam Maesschalck to the sooner of 30 June 2021, or until Student Trustees elected under the process set out in the new Articles of Association are able to take office.
Please note: The maximum term length for Student Trustees under the current Articles of Association is 2 years. These extensions comply with this limit in both cases.
Oliver Robinson, President and Chair of the Trustee Board said: “We’re grateful that Sam and Eloise have agreed to stay on a little longer to give us time to elect new Trustees in the summer term. It would not be right or appropriate to go through another appointment process for student trustees when a change in that process is just around the corner. As soon as our new Articles are in place, we will be holding elections so that Sam and Eloise are able to go free!”.
This academic year your union has been conducting a review of its democratic processes and governance structures. A referendum will take place in Week 8 of Lent Term 2021 on the new Articles of Association, giving all students the ability to decide how our Union works.
