It's only half way through second term but teams are winning leagues,winning medals at nationals and breaking records at BUCS. Trampoling, Korfball, Badminton, Fencing, Athletics, Swimming and Karate have all competed at national or northern events ever the last few weeks.
Trampolining travelled to Nottingham on February 10 and 11 for the Nottingham Open as part of the Northern English Universities Trampolining League. Against tough competition, Lancaster came away from the weekend with 6 medallists!

The Ligers had a great time in Manchester on the 18 February. The day saw Lancaster 1st and 2nds go head to head to decide who would be qualifying from the group stage to compete for the plate.
The first took the spot and came third overall securing themselves a place at Nationals and the second put on a great performance and come in 5th.

Lancaster had 5 teams competing at BUCS Nationals this weekend.
Badminton
Badminton saw Adam Stewart make it to the top 32 in the UK for Men’s Singles and Alistair Hawgood & Viktor Minchev in the Men’s Doubles. Mixed doubles Viktor Minchev & Amy Heron and Men’s Doubles Mark Eardley & Adam Stewart made it to the final round of qualifiers. Alistair Hawgood & Jess Logue made it to the second round of Mixed Doubles and Jess with partner Vic Hatch also made it to the second round of the Women’s Doubles. In the first round of women’s singles qualifiers were Amy Heron and Vic Hatch and Brannon Lee Chong in Men’s Singles.
President Adam Stewart said, “Given the size and standard of this competition (it’s crazy! International players left, right and centre), achieving two main draw (top 32) results for the University is a fantastic result!! And it was very nearly 4.”
Indoor Athletics
With 20+ events, Track and Field and a mascot race, Indoor Athletics is huge. Lancaster Panthers sent 8 to compete in various events over the weekend, including Shane Alleyne in High Hump and Long Jump, Joshua Ingham in 400m, Luke Lorenzi and Theodore Reeve in 60m, Rachel Lever and Emily Wood in 200m, Miri Luft in the High Jump and Grace Munday in Shotput.
Theodore Reeve ran in the 60m,7.11 for second in his heat and 7.19 in the semi-final to place 35th overall. Grace Munday Threw the shotput at 9.57m to place 12th overall. Joshua Ingham ran the 400m (52.4 39th overall), 200m (23.1 in heat and 23.3 in the semi-final to place 23rd). Miri Luft, competing in High Jump, jumped 1.5 m placing 39th. Rachel Lever ran 28.3 and placed 45th in the 200m.
Karate
For Karate this was the clubs first major competition for some time and the current members first BUCS entry. Up against world champions, three of the team made it through to the second round. President William Macluskie is feeling positive that with the current training it won’t be long before the team start seeing medal finishes.
Fencing
Fencing have had a great season in the BUCS northern league with the women’s team winning their league last week.
Competing across both Sabre, Foil and Epee individuals Lancaster came away with some solid results against tough competition.
Men’s: Epee - Mark Robson - 60/145, Sabre - Max Clyde - 56/123, Foil - Luke Rees - 23/146, Tom Cann - 55/146.
Women’s: Epee - Anna Hills - 42/85, Lisa Norcross - 81/85, Sabre - Lisa Norcross - 68/70, Sophia Smith - 62/70, Foil - Anna Hills - 41/87, Sophia Smith - 62/87

Swimming
Swimming and Water Polo had a big weekend with the Men's Water Polo winning their league tourniment with 4 wins from 4 games vs Chester, Liverpool 2nd’s and Manchester 2nd’s to sit unbeaten and at the top of league. At Nationals the Men's 4x100m Medley team smashed University Records to finish 6th in the BUCS National Long Course Championships. Juan Mougan, Will Beavan and Hugh Takemoto all beat university records in their individial heats.
