On Saturday the 25th of November LUDanS travelled to Durham to take part in the University’s national dance competition. They competed against Durham University, University of York, York St John’s, University of St Andrews and The University of Sunderland in categories including jazz, contemporary, lyrical, street, ballet and tap.

Intermediate Ballet, choreographed by Hayley Trussell, Intermediate Jazz, choreographed by Shannon McCaul and Megan Readman, and Lyrical, choreographed by Bethan Stephens and Hayley Trussell, won 3rd place in their category. Advanced Ballet, choreographed by Emily Barnett, achieved 2nd place, and Advanced Street, choreographed by Jackelyn Taylor and Chloe Stephenson, took  1st place! The team of 21 managed to really impress the judges, and came back with 5 trophies to show for their hard work and dedication.

The LUDanS choreographers were Victoria Meadows, Alysha Oakley, Emily Barnett, Bethan Stephens, Hayley Trussell, Shannon McCaul, Megan Readman, Jackelyn Taylor and Chloe Stephenson.

The next university competition they will be attending is at Newcastle University in Term 2, and they have every confidence that they will perform even better and come home with more trophies to prove what a great society LUDanS is despite their small numbers! When asked how she felt about the results, the society’s competition coordinator, Alysha Oakley, said ‘I am so proud of everyone who competed at Durham for all the hard work they put in to get the dances ready! Many of our squads won trophies including 1st place for Advanced Street! I’m looking forward to seeing the talent at auditions for our term 2 competitions this week, and I can’t wait to get stuck into rehearsals again!’
