The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Students has published a report with contributions made by LUSU. 

 

 

The report, a Commission on Students in Higher Education, calls for a number of adjustments to help students facing issues such as poverty, rent increases, and mental ill-health. 

 

‘The report identifies the urgent challenges facing universities today, as well as proposing solutions based on over 30 written submissions from students’ unions, universities, sector bodies, and individual experts.’

Lancaster University Students’ Union provided a collection of evidence to the APPG, highlighting issues with workload, and the cost of living. We are incredibly proud of the opportunity to provide information for this report and will continue to support our students on both a university, and national scale.  You can read our contribution here.

The APPG report covers numerous layers of the student experience, providing guidance to both the government and universities on how to better support the student population. This includes recommendations for a minimum student income that rises in line with inflation, an increase to maintenance loans, the reintroduction of maintenance grants, and more.
