We have an early Christmas present for all, as we announce that the annual Roses tournament will take place in Lancaster next year

We are delighted to confirm that the annual Roses tournament 2022 against York University will take place in Lancaster. Lancaster and York take turns to host the spectacular sporting competition, which remains the largest inter-university varsity in Europe. For 3 days every year, campus is transformed as a sea of red and white descends and an age-old rivalry is reignited. We cannot wait to host the event in the coming year and for Team Lancaster to prove once again, that Roses are red.

Over 50 tournaments will take place, including everything from Esports to Equestrian challenges; plenty of opportunities for Team Lancaster to prove their prowess. It's impossible to deny this everlasting rivalry to course through your veins and we can't wait to watch it all. The dramatic opening ceremony will take place on April 29th, signalling the start of this climatic tournament and continue until May 1st.

Speaking about the prospect of a home Roses, VP Sport Paul McCarthy said:

"Forget the Qatar World Cup. Forget the Winter Olympics. You can even forget the World Championship dominoes tournament. The Roses home tournament will be, without question, the biggest sporting event of 2022.

After two long and miserable years without a full in-person Roses, and a further 2 years since having one in Lancaster, I am absolutely over the moon that we're going to be hosting this year. Early organisation stages with York are going really well and I have no doubt in my mind that it's going to be an incredible event and the pinnacle of the sporting year.

Whether you play sport, like sport, or genuinely have no interest in it whatsoever, for this weekend we are one, as we all come together as Team Lancaster to show that Roses are, and always will be, red."

We will be monitoring the ongoing COVID situation throughout the planning of our event.
