The entirety of the Officer Team (Full Time/Part Time) has empowered Jesse Phillips, our LGBTQ+ Officer to write to the Vice-Chancellor Andy Schofield and the Pro-Chancellor Alistair Burt with our full support.
Lancaster University should be a place where students and academics of all races, sexualities, genders, abilities and creeds can come together to create world-leading research and receive a world class education.
The Students' Union is therefore concerned about the appointment of Alistair Burt to the position of Pro-Chancellor given his chequered history on a variety of issues, including on LGBTQ+ and Human Rights.
We hope that he will use this chance to distance himself from the more problematic elements of his record and to bring his skillset to Lancaster for the benefit of all students. We hope that he will work actively to promote the interests of marginalised members of our community.
