You’ve had a few weeks at home, you’ve got those Uni blues, so here are some highlights to see you through.

We're back with more flashbacks! And this time we're reminiscing Lent term. No January blues to be seen here, just Lancaster uni life at it's finest (- any sunny weather and + some serious exam preparations).

Lent Term

1. IT SNOWED!

Like the glorious heat of summer 2018, we can't think back to January without remembering the majestic snowfall that graced our beautiful campus. The ducks were out in full force, making snow angles with every webbed step, whilst we forgot about deadlines and frolicked like children in the glistening snowflakes.

2. SOCIAL MEDIA CONFERENCE

Your 2018/19 Campaigns and Communications Officer, Islay Grant organised a fantastic (and Lancaster first) Social Media Conference alongside LU Marketing Society and LU Advertising Society. Not only was the event free and open to all, it included top speakers such as Raj Jeyaraj, Tom Jensen, Rob Illidge and Amanda Wells who discussed everything from how to set up a global agency to whether social media is ruining your life.

Julia, from the Advertising Society said that there were an “Incredibly engaging and insightful list of events delving into topics ranging from hacking Instagram algorithms to creating your own online brand, and understanding the impact of technology on our everyday lives. Thank you to Islay for the amazing opportunity to meet so many speakers and hear their individual perspective on this broad range of topics and issues”

3. RESCUE HENS

Our flock grew at the start of this year as we welcomed 16 new ladies to the EcoHub! The hens were adopted by the Edible Campus Society after being rescued from a life of captivity. You can visit our lovely ladies down at the EcoHub site near Lonsdale College and help tend to their needs (and collect a few eggs along the way) as part of the Edible Campus Society

4. EDUCATION CONFERENCE

From one conference to another, the Student Education Conference returned for 2019! Your 2018/19 Education Officer, Ian Meeks, together with Amatey Doku from the National Union of Students and award-winning leadership coach Stephen Dowson worked with academic reps to show them how to be leaders and make real change.

Former Education Officer Ian Meeks said:
‘What a day! It was great to see so many students engaging with our conference and to hear so many conversations starting following the sessions. A big thank you to everybody who came along and to all of the people who helped to make the day the success that it was.’
