Description
Welcome to the Gaming & Esports Society!
If you're into both casual and LAN gaming, we're the society for you! We meet multiple times a week to play all kinds of casual games, with a strong focus on including new people and, above all, having a LOT of fun! If you play Smash, Mario Kart, Mario Party, or friendslop games, we've got you covered. And if you like local-network games like Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, Payday, or Killing Floor, we have options for you too!
- Casual socials: Weekly on Tuesdays from 6 to 9 PM! The atmosphere is small, intimate and highly welcoming; no drinking needed. At the start of the week, we post our selected games on Discord, and we're very open to suggestions too! If you have a game you'd like to play, you are more than welcome to come and join!
- Smash Weeklies: Held across campus every Monday from 6-10 PM, come along and take part in our friendly tournaments regardless of your skill level or experience. Sessions start with open friendlies before progressing into tournament-style knockout rounds.
- Mini-LANs: Every Wednesday from 5-8 PM, we hold mini-LAN events, where we come together with our PC gaming equipment!
- Termly Mario Kart Tournament: Every term, we host a Mario Kart tournament for you to compete in! Play randomly selected courses in either Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Mario Kart World on the big screen!
- LAN: We run at least 2 LANs per term, where we all come together with our kit and spend TWELVE HOURS STRAIGHT gaming, taking part in tournaments, holding our General Meetings, and a bunch of other dynamic activities we will have planned.
- Bailrigg Smash Tournament: This termly tournament brings together people from around the world to take part in a range of Smash games, with money and medals up for grabs for the best in each series.
- Roses: Our annual tournament against the University of York goes back many decades, but eSports is one of the latest additions, and we look for the best players in the whole University to represent us and bring us victory in League of Legends, VALORANT, DoTA2, CS: GO, Overwatch, Rocket League and Smash Ultimate.
- NUEL: Our Society teams also take part in the NUEL Tournaments, which are termly, and take place between any and all of the Universities in the UK, our R6 Siege team have come first place this year!
- NSE: As an official body for university esports, they're a critical part of the university social experience for future generations and endeavour to create a world where players who engage with university esports become more confident and successful as a result through their partnership with British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS). Our results have been strong, particularly in Rocket League, Overwatch and League.
The best way to keep in touch with us is our Discord server, which you can join at discord.gg/luges. We also have Instagram. You can also follow us on Twitch!
We look forward to meeting you!
