Educate – Participate – Advocate

Lancaster STAR (Student Action for Refugees) is a society dedicated to supporting refugees and asylum seekers both locally and nationally by working with local NGO's, the STAR network and our members!

Our aim is to raise awareness, provide practical support, and advocate for positive change in refugee rights and welfare.

Lancaster STAR works under STAR's umbrella, who operates as a national network of students all campainging for the same goal. With STAR you have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact through our campus and beyond.

Activities Lancaster STAR has held:

• Cultural food nights
• Stand at the Autumn Fiesta with local NGOs
• Film & documentary nights with Take 2 Cinema
• Bake sales & Raffle stalls to raise money
• Collecting donations & clothes to donate to Calais
• Volunteer showcases to get members to volunteer (e.g. helping with English & Math classes and drop-ins)
• Music/dance evenings with refugees DJing
• Host talks with external speakers & PhD students
• Campaigning the university to provide refugees with scholarships
• End of Term Dinner with STAR members
• Bringing refugees to the campus Prayer Rooms & Chaplaincy Centre for prayers and religious celebrations
