Joining Lancaster this year?
The Motorsport Society is one of the longest-running and largest societies on Campus, providing a great opportunity for those passionate about motorsport to interact and help people interested to get their first experience.
All of our events are incredibly friendly to new members, encouraging members to engage with all events, be it F1 Viewings, karting etc, regardless of prior experience or knowledge.
F1 Viewings
The society streams all Formula 1 qualifiers and races during term time! Qualifying is typically watched on campus while races are streamed crafties in the city centre.
Race viewings are a great opportunity to be able to watch F1 in high quality (without paying the expensive sky sports fees) alongside meeting other students who are passionate about the sport and overall a great atmosphere to enjoy yourself and make some new friends.
Casual Karting
A key cornerstone of our society Is the opportunity for members to engage with our casual karting sessions, where we visit a variety of tracks throughout largely the northwest!
We aim to have 3 casual events per term, including our Competitive karting trails within term 1, at both indoor and outdoor events to provide a varied experience. This is open to everyone regardless of experience and usually
This offers a great experience for people just to have some fun on track, but also build up their karting skills and compete in our casual internal karting league!
Society socials (Drinking & Sober)
Every Wednesday we have drinking socials where members can come along, get to know each other and overall enjoy. These socials mix between town and campus, however, we tend to always end the night at our sponsor SugarHouse!
Alongside this, our SugarHouse provides all of our paying members with SSSS Cards, helping you save money and have an easier time getting tickets for and getting into SugarHouse!
Sugarhouse Sports Society Sponsorship (SSSS) Card
Access to Q-Jump on all nights including ticketed events
Access to an exclusive drinks menu at discounted prices
Ability to buy tickets for any SugarHouse events, before they go on sale for anyone else
We also have sober socials, to include those who arent interested in drinking socials, where we will go on hiking trips, have movie nights and hopefully much much more!
British University Karting Championship and Competitive Karting
Similar to how the other campus sports teams compete in BUC's we have BUKC!
Our BUKC Teams are our most competitive teams, competing in a variety of tracks around the country and then eventually racing in the BUKC 24-hour endurance race at Teeside every year.
This year we came 2nd in the Clubman Championship of BUKC and had our best every year within BUKC 24-Hours, with the A team coming 3rd, the B team coming 8th and the C team coming 38th
Alongside this we will also be having a Northern Rental Karting League (NRKL) team this year, open to drivers not racing within BUKC but who still want to gain experience within competitive karting and increase their skills to hopefully join the BUKC team.
If you would like to join either of these teams, come along to our BUKC trails within Term 1 and regularly attend our karting socials! If your pace Is good and you're passionate, you're likely to be picked to race within NRKL, BUKC or be a reserve driver.
We also compete in Roses, having won last year we are looking to keep this winning streak going! We only pick existing competitive drivers to race within this so do your best to get in the competitive teams!
Women in Motorsport
At Lancaster Motorsport Society we also have a big push for our Women in Motorsport (WiM) initiative, where we have specific events exclusive for female/female-aligning students to feel more comfortable in karting and attend the main sessions!
Alongside this we will be having a WiM event joined with a handful of northern Universities including Leeds, to have a large event where you can meet students from other universities who are also passionate about karting!
Society Trips and Events
We are also looking to go to a variety of tracks like Donnington and Oulton Park, to attend Rally events, British GT and any other car meets happening within the local area.
Every year we also attend the Festa Italia car meet within Lancaster City centre, all of our car events offer a great opportunity for any of those interested in photography to get a great chance for some pictures and aside from that is just a great chance to see some interesting cars!
The University Stig
Some say that he only eats Greggs...
...and that he's scared of the campus ducks...
...all we know is he's not the Stig...
... he's the Stig's University Cousin!
Keep an eye out for Lancaster Stig out in the wild around campus!
