Description

Lancaster University Running and Athletics Club aim to promote running both as a competitive sport and a healthy, sociable, recreational hobby. We are open to all abilities, whether you’ve never run, thrown or jumped a day in your life or you’re competing at the highest level - there is something for everyone! We believe that although it is important to push yourself to the best you can be and to have a support of other like-minded athletes around, it is also hugely important to be an open and accessible club, which is why we welcome people of all abilities.

Our training captains also provide specialised training schedules based on people's abilities, so whether you’re just looking to run your first 5K or training for your third marathon, we can help you out. We also organise a Couch to 5K group who work separately to our main group to achieve their personal goals.

As a club, we encourage everyone to take part in races, though this is not compulsory. As you all know, it's not about winning - it's the taking part that matters. We compete in many local road races, the Mid-Lancs Cross Country League, Steel Cup, the BUCS Cross Country races, the BUCS Track and Field events and some larger national races. The race distances vary a lot, from 60m to 800m, then all the way up to a Full Marathon, meaning there is something for everyone!

Social events are held every other week throughout term time and all members are encouraged to attend. This is the best time to meet like-minded people and catch up with fellow club members. Our socials are well known throughout the University for being incredibly entertaining and enjoyable and we can promise you will have some great memories by the end of the year!

When do we meet?

We meet at 6pm on Mondays in the Pendle TV room (above Pendle Bar) for a variety of runs, such as 10k, 5k, Couch-to-5k and interval sessions, as well as at 3pm on Wednesdays for a track session at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre. We also meet at 4pm on Sundays for circuit training in County South Lecture Theatre (during winter) or on the rugby pitches by Health Innovation campus (in summer).

We look forward to meeting you all at our training sessions! Feel free to get in contact in the meantime if you have any questions.
