On the 27 October, Executive Committee voted to approve a paper penned and submitted by Noah Katz, Campaigns Officer of Lancaster University Jewish Society (JSoc), to codify and strengthen the already existing use of the IHRA Definition of Antisemitism.
IHRA was adopted within Union policy in 2018 by then SU President Josh Woolf. The JSoc paper calls for “the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism to be explicitly adopted, in full, into all relevant Union policy” both new and pre-existing. The paper also mandates the officer teams “to lend their support to JSoc in lobbying UMAG to adopt the Definition in full”, as such, Executive Committee supports JSoc’s petition which had already been supported by all JCR Executive Presidents, the PG Board Chair, representatives from all campus political parties and team captains/presidents of over 30 sports teams/societies. Please get in touch with Noah n.katz@lancaster.ac.uk if you’re on a club/society exec and you'd like to sign the petition (& you haven't already).
Executive Committee calls for a timely adoption of the IHRA Definition of Antisemitism at the University. Delaying this process further, would be doing so at the detriment of our Jewish students.
