Thursday 25-08-2022 - 15:51

The Students’ Union are deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the recent death of student Emily Free. Emily was a much-loved Furnessian and Psychology student who will be remembered as a valuable member of the University community.

We are working closely with the University to provide support to anyone affected by this news. We encourage anyone to reach out for support during this difficult time.

There are a variety of avenues for support available through the University and beyond that may be helpful, including:

·       Student wellbeing support and the Counselling and Mental Health service for students

·       the Chaplaincy for students, who can be contacted directly via chaplaincy@lancaster.ac.uk

·       The Students’ Union’s advice service, which offers confidential help and support to students. Email advice@lancastersu.co.uk

Support is also available from charities such as Sudden, the Samaritans, The Good Grief Trust and Mind amongst others.

When the time is right and we have had some time to digest this sad news, we will want to come together to pay a fitting tribute to remember Emily. In the meantime, the University have reached out to her close friends to offer them as much support as possible.

Having reached out to her close friends to offer support, the University continues to liaise with Emily's family and friends, and will confirm arrangement to come together to pay a fitting tribute to remember Emily at the start of the new term.
