It’s almost time for the big one…

 

 

The teams are training, the battlefields are being set up, but are you guys ready? 

This weekend, on 2nd – 4th May, Lancaster University athletes will be packing up their bags and heading to our competitors home turf to discover which colour roses really are. 

Are you ready… for Roses 2025? 

Your first year at Lancaster? Not a got a clue what we’re going on about? Let us explain. 

A years old sequel to a historic rivalry, Roses is a weekend full of cheering, celebrations, and competitive sport as Lancaster University sport teams and athletes go up against York University (you see where we get the name from?)

Roses has occurred every year for 60 years over the first weekend of May. It may have begun with a simple boat race, but over the years it has snowballed into the biggest intervarsity competition in Europe. And now, here we are!

This year, we’re competing in York for Rose’s 60th Anniversary, with an unprecedented 145 fixtures and a total of 346 points up for grabs over the weekend. And after winning last year, Lancaster is ready to win again. 

Looking to cheer Lancaster on? Don’t forget your wristbands so you can join us in York on Friday 2nd May at 8PM for this year’s Opening Ceremony: Basketball Men’s 1s.  

But just because it’s an away Roses, doesn’t mean you can’t show your Lancaster pride and wear red! Because you can nab some exclusive Lancaster Roses 2025 merch to show who you’re rooting for – from home or away.

Then once you’re back on Sunday night, don’t rush off home! 

Because win or lose, it’s time to celebrate Lancaster at The Sugarhouse’s Final Bloom: Roses Closing Party. A full night of celebrations, music, and fun, plus a mystery celeb DJ Guest… can you guess who?
