Happy first day of Black History Month people!

Today is the 1st of October marking the beginning of Black History Month, a time for us to celebrate African and Caribbean origin in British history. To all our beautiful African-Caribbean students, we encourage you to go to and listen in on as many BHM related events, talks and experiences whilst rejoicing during a month of shared history and black excellence.

There are millions of resources available for you to further understand Black History Month and the beauty it holds for Black people. This is a time for Black people to celebrate the vibrancy of our history. It’s also important to note that Black History Month is about about Afro-Caribbean/Caribbean lives and experiences. Black History Month goes beyond the month, so make sure you’re actively learning.

May this month empower you to do great things and to overcome challenges set in place to diminish and silence Black voices. Here’s to a month that encourages unity and prosperity amongst the black community. On behalf of us, we hope this month brings great joy and success amongst our people!

Signed,

Chloe Long & Chloe Diafuku, Lancaster University Students' Union BME Officers.
