On 17th May, Lancaster University Students’ Union Children and Young People’s Partnership supported the Islamic Society to teach over 200 local children at Ellel St John’s Primary School about Islam and its meaning to be a Muslim.
The collaboration will be the starting point for the 2022/23 project Lancaster’s Window to the World. This project will enable the district schools to engage with different faiths, cultures and the international community through informative and interactive presentations and talks.
Members of ISOC prepared and delivered two interactive presentations to both Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 1 about traditions and beliefs in Islam, alongside information about Islamic majority countries.
The presentations gave the pupils an essential insight into the traditions of Ramadan and Eid, with the children able to ask questions about the religion and its cultural aspects.
Student staff member Lesley Porter
"it has been a fantastic opportunity for Ellel St. Johns Primary School to work with the Islamic Society and we are looking forward to many more school engagements".
Hamza Dalvi from the Islamic Society
"The session at Ellel St. John's was a huge success and was a great opportunity for our members to share Islam with the future leaders of the local area. As Muslims, we value the importance of community building and helping to create tolerant societies. this is one of our aims as a student group"
