We want to keep students and staff as safe as possible in the new academic year, and ensure that Covid doesn't put a stop to your Welcome Week

We have therefore decided to introduce the NHS Covid Pass or a negative test result as a condition of entry to large scale events including Freshers' Fest and all Sugarhouse events.

 

For entry to the Sugarhouse, you'll need to show your valid pass or result before you join our queue each night.

What you need to get an NHS Covid Pass:

• To be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine used in the UK
• Negative PCR test or rapid lateral flow test within the past 48 hours
• Positive PCR test within the past 6 months

The pass can be easily obtained from either the NHS app, NHS website or you can request a paper copy from 119.

 

We will also accept a negative test taken within 48 hours (either a text message or an email confirmation).

You can collect a pack of free Lateral Flow Test kits to use on campus and from several pharmacies in Lancaster. Packs will include detailed step-by-step instructions on how to take the test at home and upload your result to receive the confirmation text or email.

We want to make your student experience as enjoyable as possible, and we know a huge part of that will include feeling safe whilst you party with us.

These requirements are required due to the large scale of the events and are not automatically applicable to all other activities. Teams will be issuing further guidance around other activities in due course. 

 

The Students' Union will be working with the University to provide pop up testing centres throughout Welcome Week, making it as easy as possible for you to join in.

On top of operating the Covid entry requirements we'll also:

• Encourage staff to test twice weekly in line with University policy
• Ensure fresh air is ventilated throughout the venue
• Provide hand sanitizer on entry
• Provide clean handwashing facilities
• Minimise contact points
• Operate a thorough cleaning schedule
• Communicate to you what we'll be doing to keep you safe
