Molly is the Postgraduate and Mature Students' Officer at LUSU.

The Postgraduate and Mature Students' Forum (PGM) Executive Committee elections are taking place on Thursday 7th December in Bowland North Seminar Room 24, 6:15-8pm.

We’ve had an amazing semester with some awesome student-led events, and now it’s time to make it official and get the exec up and running. Our first round of elections is fast approaching, and we’d love to welcome more PGM students into our leadership roles. You can run for these roles if you’re a postgrad or mature student – some EDI roles have additional requirements.

  • General Secretary: Takes minutes at meetings, assists with financial business, and helps with any other matters of democracy as they arise. Stands in for the LCO when they are unavailable.
  • Families Officer: Represents students with dependants such as children, ensuring that the forum is hosting a range of events and campaigns that are family friendly. You must be a student with dependants to run for this role.
  • Mature Students Officer: Represents Mature Undergraduate students, ensuring that the forum is inclusive and accessible to mature students. You must be a mature undergraduate student to run for this role.
  • Intersectionality Officer: Represents, protects, and promotes the interests of minority students in the forum; liaises with other forums to create a range of events and campaigns for minority students, and to help signpost resources. You must be a member of at least one other forum (RAEM, LGBTQ+, Women+, Students with Disabilities, International Students) to run for this role.
  • General Exec (3 spots open): Assists with the day-to-day running of the forum, management of social media accounts, graphics, feeding back from members, and any other tasks required to keep the forum running smoothly.

All execs will be asked to attend exec meetings (date and time will be arranged around your availability), will be required to help run socials/campaigns, and help and support each other’s roles. We are a team! It’s an exciting time to be part of the forum, as we re-establish and create a space that works for us. We expect the roles to evolve and adapt around the people who get involved.

If you’d like to nominate yourself, please prepare a short speech to be delivered on the evening, and send it in to su.maturestudentsofficer@lancaster.ac.uk (or via the Instagram/Facebook) by midday on Thursday 7th December. Tell us why you want the role, and why you’re a great fit. Any roles without candidates will also be open on the day, but nominating yourself beforehand guarantees you can run.

Since the forum represents postgrads, we will be holding another round of elections with additional roles open next semester – so if you’re an incoming PG student, you won’t miss out.

If you’d like more information about the forum and what we do, take a look at our Instagram
