Working with Lancaster University's Islamic Society, the Children and Young Peoples Partnership have been teaching local school children about the Islamic faith. ISOC produced interactive presentations for pupils in Key Stages 1 and 2 and presented them to primary schools in the area, which gave pupils a fundamental insight into Islamic beliefs and traditions, as well as key information about Islamic majority countries. Pupils had the opportunity to ask questions about the religion and the cultural aspects of Islamic countries.
Miss Flynn, Year 3 teacher at Scotforth St Paul’s Primary School said:
“The children enjoyed the session and they now have a better understanding of the Islamic faith. ISoc has given us a good foundation to continue in our learning.”
This was only an introduction to the new Lancaster’s Window to the World project, set to be fully launched in the 2022/23 academic year. The project will allow schools in the Lancaster and Morecambe Bay Area to develop a deeper understanding of different faiths, cultures and the wider world through interactive presentations and talks.
Hamza Dalvi, ISOC member said:
“As Muslims, we value the importance of community building and helping to create tolerant societies. this is one of our aims as a student group; the sessions have been a huge success and were a great opportunity for our members to share Islam with the future leaders of the local area.”
