We support a wide range of different clubs and societies here at the students’ union and in line with this week’s Refreshers Fair we thought we’d place a spotlight on the anniversary of one of our groups.
Over the weekend the Lancaster University Film Production society (LUFP) celebrated their sixth anniversary, having first formed in the January of 2013. The society recruited many of its first members at the Refreshers fair that year and soon began work on their first project. From that point onwards the society has offered numerous filmmaking workshops and opportunities as a creative outlet for students alongside their studies.
Matt Hardman, LUFP’s first President said: “What originally began as a mad experiment by a small handful of students to create a single film (with limited access to equipment and funds), gradually turned itself into a filmmaking community which has now produced almost thirty short films. The quality of work that has been achieved is incredible and continues to improve year on year.
“LUFP’s goal is to promote filmmaking as a recognised and reputable talent at Lancaster University, and to offer students a multitude of new opportunities in every area of cinema craft – from writing, acting and directing, to camera operation, editing and music composition.
“We pride ourselves on our diverse membership, and welcome individuals from all backgrounds, academic disciplines and degrees of experience; the beauty of filmmaking is that it is a collaborative experience and a perfect environment to learn something new!”
There are so many different things that you can get involved with through your students' union and, if you don’t manage to make it down to our Refreshers Fair event on Wednesday January 23, you can find a list of all our existing clubs and societies on our website. Why not try something new in 2019?
