Cerys is President of the FTO Team at LUSU.

After months of hard work, LUSU is delighted to announce the results of the Full-Time Officer review.

I am delighted to announce the results of the Full-Time Officer review that I’ve been working on solidly for the past 4 months.

After analysing the current team structure, I began considering how students could be better represented and consulted with dozens of student leaders across every area of the Students' Union: colleges, societies, sports, academic reps, liberation groups, student staff, and student trustees.

This is the biggest student consultation on a constitutional change that LUSU has done in recent history and I’m so glad that I can say that the Union believes in this restructure and its ability to positively impact students and officers in future years.

I can say this with confidence because on 12 January 2024 both Union Assembly (the highest democratic body in the Union) and Trustee Board (the highest governing body in the Union) approved the following changes to the officer team.

Following this year’s upcoming election cycle, four Full-Time Officers will be elected to the following positions:

  • President
  • Education Officer
  • Wellbeing Officer
  • Activities Officer

This replaces the current team structure which consists of:

  • President
  • VP Union Development
  • VP Education
  • VP Welfare
  • VP Societies and Media
  • VP Sport

For more information, I made a short explainer video which tries to explain this in an easy-to-understand way – you can watch it on Instagram here!

Chief Executive Misbah Ashraf said: “Members of the Students’ Union Senior Leadership Team will be now working through the operational workflow of this change. Fewer officers presents the opportunity for high-impact delivery on a smaller number of more focused projects which are in line with the Students’ Union strategic plan.”

Changes to the officer team have been discussed for years, and I’m delighted that I was able to put in the work to make it happen despite the time pressures.

As President I am committed to ensuring that we’re preparing now so that next year’s officer team has the support needed to be successful under this new structure.
