All final year undergraduate students were asked to complete the survey and feedback on their experience at Lancaster. 71.6% (2555) of eligible students completed the survey this year.
Amongst a plethora of questions related to your academic experience, participants were also asked question 25: “How well does the students’ union (association or guild) represent students’ academic interests?”.
To question 25, 65.3% responded “Very well” or “Well”. This represents a +2.5% increase on 2024, and a +7.9% increase on 2023.
We are proud of our continued work to improve the way in which we positively impact the academic experience of our students at Lancaster. Our work over recent years to develop and enhance the student academic representation system, and the training and support available for Student Academic Reps, has resulted in a +27.8% increase in the number of Reps since 2022/23*.
We are glad that students have demonstrated their increasing trust in their Students’ Union via the NSS this year. Nevertheless, we endeavour to continue working closely with our 437 Student Academic Reps and listen to our students year-round to ensure we are doing what’s right for them. Whatever your course, or year of study, the Students’ Union exists to represent you and works to improve your experience of university.
Speak to your Student Academic Rep and help us fight for the changes you want to see. Together, we can make your academic experience the best it can be.
Liz Gillett, LUSU Education Officer 2025/26 said: “The NSS has demonstrated the increasing visibility of our work to represent student’s academic interests. Regardless of continued improvement in our NSS score, we will continue to prioritise our students’ interests and the visibility of our work.”
Our result this year sees us rise two places** in the sector, and most importantly score higher than York. The NSS is red 🌹! We are now also the second highest scoring collegiate Students’ Union in the UK.
We are currently working closely with the University to better understand the results in this question, and the results for the University across all aspects of the academic experience. Further insights will inform the focus of our work over the coming academic year.
