Positions up for election

NUS National Conference Delegates (x5)

LUSU send five elected delegates and the VP Union Development to the National Union of Students’ National Conference each year. Delegates vote on policy and in NUS elections on behalf of the SU and the Lancaster student population. You can find out what last year’s delegates got up to here: https://lancastersu.co.uk/articles/lusu-leaves-their-mark-in-harrogate
NUS National Conference 2024 is due to take place on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th April 2024. Delegates must be available to attend.

Student Trustee (x1)

As a registered charity, the Students’ Union’s operations are overseen by our Board of Trustees. The Board is made up of our Full-Time Sabbatical Officers as the political leadership of the organisation, a number of external trustees who provide their own experience and expertise, as well as four directly elected Student Trustees. The Board is chaired by the President and meet at several points throughout the year.

Any member of the Students’ Union can run for this position. If you have an interest in how organisations are run, and would like to help support the effective running of LUSU, please consider putting yourself forward.

Harrison Stewart (VP Union Development 23/24) took on the role of Student Trustee before being elected as one of our Full-Time Officers for this academic year. If you would like to know more about the role, please contact Harrison via email or social media.

Nominating yourself

Nominations open on Monday 23rd October. At that point you will be able to nominate yourself for any position you are eligible for via the Students’ Union website: https://lancastersu.co.uk/nominate. You will need to sign-in to the Students’ Union website using your normal University details.

Once on the nomination platform, you can select the position(s) you would like to nominate yourself for. Remember you cannot hold more than one position on the JCR, but we would encourage you to consider the positions of Student Trustee and/or NUS Delegate which you can do alongside (you cannot simultaneously be a President of a JCR/PG Board and a Student Trustee, but every other combination is permitted).

To nominate yourself you must supply a candidate photo (jpg or png files work best) and submit a manifesto no longer than 250 words. Your manifesto is your opportunity to explain to voters what makes you the best candidate for the position and detail any promises you would like to make.

If you have any questions about the elections, please email lancastersuelections@lancaster.ac.uk.
