Positions up for election
Student Trustee (x2)
As a registered charity, the Students’ Union’s operations are overseen by our Board of Trustees. The Board is made up of our Full-Time Sabbatical Officers as the political leadership of the organisation, a number of external trustees who provide their own experience and expertise, as well as four directly elected Student Trustees. The Board is chaired by the President and meet at several points throughout the year.
Any member of the Students’ Union can run for this position. If you have an interest in how organisations are run and would like to help support the effective running of LUSU, please consider putting yourself forward.

Nominating yourself
Nominations open on Monday 21st October. At that point you will be able to nominate yourself for any position you are eligible for via the Students’ Union website: https://lancastersu.co.uk/nominate. You will need to sign-in to the Students’ Union website using your normal University details.
Once on the nomination platform, you can select the position(s) you would like to nominate yourself for. Remember you cannot hold more than one position on the JCR, but we would encourage you to consider the role of Student Trustee which you can do alongside (you cannot simultaneously be a President of a JCR/PG Board and a Student Trustee, but every other combination is permitted).
To nominate yourself you must supply a candidate photo (jpg or png files work best) and submit a manifesto no longer than 250 words. Your manifesto is your opportunity to explain to voters what makes you the best candidate for the position and detail any promises you would like to make.

Where did the NUS Delegates go?
Following the approval of reforms to the National Union of Students’ democratic governance at the NUS National Conference in 2024, we can no longer elect NUS Delegates.
Both the role and the conference they were elected to attend no longer existing within the NUS. We were advised by NUS to remove this position from our elections. This change was approved by the Students’ Union’s Democracy Committee, made up of the Democracy & Finance Officers of all eight JCR Executives and the PG Board.
Our elections are overseen by an external Returning Officer and administered by our expert Deputy Returning Officers from within the Students’ Union staff.
You can read the election rules here.
