Raise your voice, a bystander intervention project which will launch in Welcome Week, runs on the belief that every member of our university deserves a space free of harassment and prejudice. It is a long term campaign with the aim of empowering staff and students to put a stop to negative situations and working together to build a better community.
Bystander intervention in formal terms is prosocial behaviour used to intervene in negative situations; this project is specifically working to tackle gender based violence (sexual harassment, violence, assault), but that doesn’t mean the knowledge gained can’t be used to tackle broader hate crime and issues such as racism, islamophobia, ableism, or other discriminatory behaviours you see.
All new starters will be able to attend a talk in Welcome Week discussing bystander intervention and online training is now open to everyone to take part in now.
