Roses Live Smashed Records in 2026

Monday 18-05-2026 - 10:20

Since 1965, Lancaster and York have battled every year across 140 fixtures to win Roses. Of course, on the last five occasions Lancaster have emerged victorious (Roses are Red).

Alongside the thousands of students who play, sail, swim, run, climb, cycle and race in friendly competition, there are hundreds of students from York and Lancaster who work together to stream Roses live and direct to the thousands of passionate fans at home.

This year, 225 committee members and crew from York (YSTVURYYork Vision) and Lancaster (LA1TVBailriggFMSCAN) volunteered their time to deliver a record 73 live streams. That’s almost double the number of fixtures streamed in 2022.

All-in-all that’s an all time record of 171 hours of live coverage. A full 21 hours more than the competition at York last year.

This year’s Roses streams were:

  • Enjoyed by an astonishing 28,324 people (that’s over 10,000 more than last year!). That’s nearly three-times the capacity of this year’s Eurovision venue.
  • Watched 110,992 times (up by nearly 40,000 on 2025, and nearly double 2022 and 2023).
  • Streamed for a total of 11,702.1 hours (an all time record and a 30% increase on 2025). That’s the same amount time it would take to cook over 175,500 Pot Noodles.
  • Viewed in 59 countries or 30% of the world.

The top four most viewed Roses streams ever are from 2026 (shout-out to Cheerleading & Darts). Saturday 2nd May 2026 was the most watched day in Roses history.

On social media, Roses Live’s 171 posts received 1.8 million views, over 1500 shares and 630 likes.
