Spiking focus groups to take place in collaboration with Lancs Police

Monday 01-11-2021 - 14:36

In light of the recent spiking cases across the UK, we're holding confidential focus groups in collaboration with the Lancaster Constabulary on Thursday, November 4th and 11th

The increasing prevalence of spiking has left many feeling unsafe and the nighttime economy grappling with how to tackle the issue. We know that spiking is taking place in Lancaster and we need to understand it better. To try and improve our understanding we need to hear from you.

On Thursday November 4th and 11th, 1PM-3PM in the Great Hall, we're holding open, confidential focus groups with Licensing Officer, PC Andy Taylor from the Lancaster Police Force and we invite you to share your experiences of spiking in Lancaster. No personal details will be collected during the focus groups and you're free to exit at any time. We hope that these focus groups will offer an opportunity to share your insights into spiking and any other incidents in licensed venues in Lancaster in a space where you feel safe. Please note, that it is likely that sensitive topics will be discussed during the session.

If you'd prefer to share your experiences anonymously online, you can do so by contacting our Advocacy and Governance Manager, Chris Cottam, at c.cottam1@lancaster.ac.uk who will anonymise your insights before passing them on to the police. Alternatively, you can contact PC Andy Taylor directly at andrew.taylor2@lancashire.pnn.police.uk.

This is a challenging time and if you need support please don't hesitate to reach out. There are a number of services available including on-campus counselling via the Counselling and Mental Health Service and impartial support and advice from our Advice Service.

*Important Update The planned focus group for November 11th is postponed due to a conflict in the PC's calendar. Please check back soon for information of the rescheduled date for the second focus group.
