An update on Summer Ball
Last year the Students’ Union ran an event called Summer Ball – a big party in June to celebrate finishing exams and making it to the end of the academic year.
At LUSU we love to celebrate (it’s actually part of our strategy!) and that’s why we have been working hard behind the scenes to plan Summer Ball 2025, we’re really proud of how last year’s Summer Ball went and we wanted to deliver the same value for students.
But there’s a problem. Cost. Summer Ball expenses have shot through the roof while the student budget stretches even thinner. For us to run the same event as last year, ticket prices would have to more than double, something we know many students can’t afford. Our best people have tried looking at a million ways to make the event work, but every version of the budget failed to deliver value for students – something we think is incredibly important.
We don’t want to put on an event that most students can’t afford, especially during a cost-of-living crisis when we know that so many students are already making difficult choices about money every day.
That’s why we’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to not run Summer Ball. We are so gutted and we know that many students will be disappointed as well. We are still trying to work out if there’s something smaller we can do celebrate the end of the year and value for students remains a top priority.
As we try to work out if it’s possible for us to run some sort of end of year celebration we’d love to hear from you.
