What is it?
LUSU Swap & Style allows you to have different fancy dress costumes for no price at all. Don’t spend money every week for your Wednesday night social, instead come switch it out for one we have in our wardrobe!
How does it work?
Bring an item in you’re happy to donate and switch it out for an alternative costume from our stock. Here’s the rules:
· Swap 1 item for 1 item e.g. if you want 3 items, you must swap it with 3 of your own.
· You can swap t-shirts, dresses, trousers, hats, accessories etc.
· The items you swap must be unbroken and clean.
When can I start swapping?
LUSU Swap & Style will launch at LUSU’s HallowGreen event on 29th October 2024 in Work in Progress (12:00-15:30). After that, you will be able to swap costumes in LUSU at the Help Desk Monday-Friday (10:00-16:00) beginning 30th October.
Uh oh – ripped an outfit?
If you stop by our Welcome Desk we have a LUSU Green Repair box so you can mend your own items – whether there’s a rip in your favourite day-to-day shirt or a button missing off your spooky Halloween costume. The repair box also contains guides on how to mend clothing, just in case you’re new to mending.
Why it matters
This is something I’ve been working on with the LUSU Green team to help students through the financial struggles of university life. It enables you to have different costumes for free – affordable and sustainable!! We are looking to expand this project to incorporate interview/nice clothes soon too.
If you find you need a little extra help with finances, your Students’ Union has a weekly Supper Club event and also foods available from the LUSU Pantry. The University also provides various support opportunities.
